ITU Industrial Engineering PhD program aims students to gain skills of doing independent research, having comments by analyzing scientific events with broad and deep perspective and determining the necessary steps to reach new synthesizes. In the thesis prepared at the end of the Ph.D. program, the student is expected to develop a new scientific method or a new application of a well known method to a new application area. 

Ph.D. education period consists of eight half-term periods for graduates and ten half-term periods for undergraduates, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and Ph.D. thesis. Courses are taught both in Turkish and English. At least %30 of the total credits required for graduation should be taken from the courses in English.

Ph.D. program consists of courses which should be at least 24 credits and no less than eight units for master’s degree students, at least 45 credits and no less than fifteen units for undergraduate degree students, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and a thesis work.

Student assessment criteria of Industrial Engineering PhD Program are at least 3.0/4.0 (75/100) cumulative grade point average from M.Sc. and 2.75/4.0 (70.83/100) cumulative grade point average from undergraduate program. It is 3.25/4.0 (81.25/100) cumulative grade point average from undergraduate program for the applicants with undergraduate degree. In addition, ALES score must be at least 86. Students those graduated from engineering programs of the universities and have either B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, Management Engineering or Engineering Management programs are accepted. Students who are accepted from other engineering programs have to fulfill requirements set by the Ph.D. Administrative Committee.
